Michigan Lighthouse Conservancy – (Muskegon Lights)
The Michigan Lighthouse Conservancy (MLC) owns three lighthouses, including two at Muskegon's award-winning Pere Marquette beach- the Muskegon South Pierhead and Breakwater Lights; and one on Lake Huron, the Alpena Lighthouse. The MLC mission is to promote the preservation of Michigan's lighthouses and life saving station structures along with the artifacts associated with them. We accomplish this through education, interpretive displays and artifact preservation. In addition, providing accessibility to the lighthouses is of the utmost importance. In 2015, the Muskegon South Pierhead Light was first opened to the public on a regular basis, and future plans are underway for Muskegon South Breakwater Light openings, as soon as that light has been restored and made safe for public access. Current fundraising goals are focusing on an exciting Muskegon South Pierhead Light accessibility and safety railing project planned for 2016.
